Bible Thumpers Bash Wikipedia, Build Alternative Babel

Published by seekzap under Uncategorized

Word from our friends over at the Guardian is that religious conservatives in America have gotten tired of the ‘liberal bias’ of Wikipedia and have opted built their own digital Tower of  Babel, aptly named ‘Conservapedia‘.

While almost identical in appearance to everyone’s favorite online encyclopedia, Conservapedia’s stance varies greatly from Wikipedia’s perspective on many hot issues in American politics, including abortion, the role of religion in the American government, homosexuality, the state of Massachusetts, and apparently, spelling.

Wait a minute, what’s that you say? Isn’t Wikipedia the site where ANYONE can edit any page on the site? For any reason? Well, yes, but apparently, according to the folks at Conservapedia, their views have long been censored by reality, I mean the human brain,  I mean the Wikipedia editors, who they allege are 6 times more liberal than the average American.
Of course, all of this would be funny if it wasn’t so sad. While overall Conservapedia has some good articles, and an interesting perspective the site is a far far crey from the online educational resource it claims to be.

Featured Site: Fatback and Collards

Published by seekzap under Uncategorized

Because ‘Bless Your Heart’ Really Means ‘I Hate You’

If you like a little southern drawl with your celebrity gossip, then you need to check out the pop culture blog Fatback and Collards.

Fatback and Collards has been offering sexy southern gossip with flair since 2004. The site offers a view through the ‘kitchen window’ into the world of southern gossip and celebrities. Be warned however, that view might occasionally include certain anatomical parts of those southern celebrities, not that there is anything wrong with that.

According to the site’s About Us page, the folks at FB&C,“started this site to keep up with the goings on of our redneck and hillbilly country-come-to-town celebrities and then make fun of them. The views and opinions expressed here are probably true but we take no responsibility for the information or its source. Where possible, we link the the source of our information so we don’t look like liars. Sometimes we just make shit up.”

Alternatively vulgar and verbose, FB&C provides a fun, irreverent, and insightful perspective on the comings and goings of the nation’s celebrities. From Britney Spears to Lindsay Lohan, Kellie Pickler to Antonella Barba, the blog offers photos and commentary that is always charming and entertaining, if not always safe for work.

Seekzap New Year’s Resolutions

Published by seekzap under Seekzap Directory Info

Well, it looks like it’s that time of year again; the time of year where we all take a look at ourselves, take stock, and decide how we can make our lives better in the coming year. What was your resolution? To lose weight? Quit smoking? Spend more time with family and friends?

We here at Seekzap made some resolutions of our own. No, we’re not losing weight (although, now that we think of it, it might not be a bad idea) - we’re setting some resolutions of our own to make our directory better for our visitors and the webmasters submitting their sites to Seekzap.

How do we plan to make our directory better? Well, more sites for one. Currently, Seekzap lists over 1,380 websites. By the end of 2007, we want to increase that figure by 2,000, more than doubling the number of sites already in our index.

That’s not all we plan to do in 2007. This year, you can expect to see more articles and more featured sites in our blog to help our visitors find more great sites and use the web to make their lives better.

We’re also working on a couple new features that we hope to launch in 2007. First, we’re hoping to  update the Seekzap Directory with site previews to help our visitors find the sites they want faster. Also, we’re also working to upgrade the Seekzap Directory with a unique search function that will let our visitors search all the sites in Seekzap Directory at once.

Here’s hoping for a great 2007!

What Do You Want for Christmas?

Published by seekzap under Seekzap Directory Info

Did you know that, by submitting your site to Seekzap, you get more than just a great link to your website? Did you know that you could also get the opportunity to make Christmas morning brighter for a needy child?

As the calendar turns from October to November, the falling temperatures and impending snow can only mean one thing - Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and the Christmas season is fast approaching. Before you know it, the yuletide season will be here, providing many of us with a much needed opportunity for parties, celebration, and the chance to bask in the love and generosity of our friends and family.

Unfortunately, for some people, the Christmas season means something completely different. Hard times, rent, hospital bills, and other expenses leave precious little funds for celebrating the holiday and threaten to rob the season of some of its magic and excitement. All too often, this means that the area under the tree is bare, if there is a tree at all. It is children who suffer most when this happens.

Thankfully, there are people out there willing to lend a hand and make Christmas a little bit brighter for needy children who would otherwise ‘go without’ this holiday season. One such group giving children a reason to hope this winter is the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation. The Marine Toys for Tots Foundation collects new, unwrapped toys throughout October, November, and December and distributes them to needy children in communities thoughout the United States.

Seekzap Directory is thrilled to announce that this year, we’ll be helping the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation brighten Christmas morning for needy children. From November 1st to December 15th of this year, we will be donating 50% of all of our website submission fees to the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation.

This means that, from now to December 15th, every time a website is submitted to our directory using either our Premium or Paid Submission options, 50% of the submission fee will be used to help bring toys to needy children in communities throughout the United States. So, help make Christmas a little brighter for a needy child in your area: submit early, and submit often!

Featured Site: Quitsmokeless.org

Published by seekzap under Featured Sites

Editor’s Note: From time to time, we here at Seekzap will take a closer look at a site contained in our website directory via our “Featured Site” series. In our latest installment in this series, we take a closer look at QuitSmokeless.org, a website dedicated to helping men and women break their addiction to chewing and smokeless tobacco. This website is currently located in our Addictions Category (Home > Health > Addictions).

“My excuse for not lecturing against the use of tobacco is, that I never chewed it; that is a penalty which reformed tobacco-chewers have to pay”

- Henry David Thoreau

No one can say for sure whether or not Henry David Thoreau would try chewing tobacco if he were alive today. One thing we can all be certain of, however, is that if he were alive today, he would most certainly agree with the message and goal behind the QuitSmokeless.org website. Created in 2000 by a former tobacco chewer, QuitSmokeless.org is dedicated to helping men and women “kick the can” and break their addiction to chaw, dip, and all other forms of chewing and smokeless tobacco.

A quick perusal of the site shows that the motivation behind it’s creation is quite simple. To quote Matt, the site’s creator:

“Basically, I started this page because 1) There isn’t jack on the Web (or anywhere really) supporting those trying to quit this kind of tobacco addiction, and 2) I think about how much friggin’ money and time I wasted on the crap and I wish someone who had been there would have told me what was up! I guess I wouldn’t have listened anyway. How many times have you made bullsh-t excuses to leave your girlfriend just to slap in a wedge and sit around filling up a pop can with spit? No less than a hundred for me. But, that’s just one of the problems I had. I don’t think I’ll get oral cancer, but they (the medical community) say it can show up even years after quitting.”

While the motivation driving the site might be simple, the site’s offerings are anything but. QuitSmokeless.org’s wide range of articles, tools, and resources to help anyone quit chewing tobacco and stay quit.

One of the site’s most unique offerings is site’s QuitSmokeless Community. More than simply a forum or messageboard, the QuitSmokeless Community is an online support group, offering its members an opportunity for motivation, support, and the occasional ass-kicking if necessary.

Of course, Quitsmokeless.org has more to offer those people trying to quit chewing tobacco than just the QuitSmokeless Community. The site also features dozens of links and articles designed to arm site visitors with the information they need to quit for good.

Quitsmokeless.org also features a unique calculator called QuitTrack that helps quitters track their progress as well as the amount of money they saved by making the decision to quit chewing tobacco.

For more information on quitting chewing tobacco, please visit the QuitSmokeless.org website or the Addictions Category of the Seekzap Directory.
